Yesterday though, was different. we went into a few shops and I was so disappointed with what I saw. Maybe its been around me always, but yesterday was the first time I had noticed.
1. Most clothing stores we looked in, where far from pram friendly.
The clothes racks were pushed so closely together, I couldn't even get in the front door! The racks and tables were so full and so squished in, that Thomas could barely fit in, without a pram! It ended in me not even entering majority of my favourite stores (from before having E) because I couldn't fit.
2. The customer service was horrible in all but 1 store.
The first store we went into, in which I had to push my way through the crowded stores to begin with, Ethan was making his usual coo noses, then he started to cry a little. The lady working in the store, who hadn't even come to talk to us, even though we were the only ones in the store. Looked at me and gave me the most dirty look, then looked at Ethan and gave him the same look.
We then went in to two more stores, one store where there was 2 men standing in the middle of the store talking, but never come to give us help (this was a shoe store, so its not like you can look at sizes and so forth on your own) Although the last store, Sportco The staff were friendly and helpful, the store was easy to get into and it was clean and tidy looking!
3. Less is more?
Maybe i'm just out of the loop, maybe I don't follow fashion. But by the look of it, the fashion is, less is more. Judging by the racks of clothing, with what I actually thought was underwear, until I looked around and saw that girls were walking around in these clothing, as outerwear!
And I mean girls! 12-13 year old girls in shorts so short you can see butt cheeks and tops that really are just bras with a bit of fancy stuff on the bottom.
Maybe i'm just jealous that I couldn't pull off shorts that short?
I guess when they have people such as Miley (pictured) to look up to, who wear these kinds of clothing, its not a surprise that girls want to dress like them. But I think that young girls are in so much of a hurry to grow up, I know because I was one, not all that long ago. But wearing clothes such as these is such a bad way of going about it.
Like I said, maybe i'm just out of the loop but my shopping expedition was far from a good experience yesterday and it made me look at the world around me in a totally different light!
My tips?
-In customer service, a smile goes such a long way. Its free and easy to give and will make your customers feel much more comfortable.
-Being friendly and chatting to customers, actually makes the time pass faster! (I found after many years in customer service)
- Girls, we don't have to see your butt cheeks. Please wear shorts that are longer than the pockets!
How do you feel about modern day fashion?
Have you had any good/bad shopping experiences of late?
And Essentially Jess for IBOT!
Don't get me started on customer service! As for fashion, drives me crazy, was looking for shorts for my girls (only 11 & 8) and looked every where! Literally found ONE pair that weren't so short there butt cheeks would have been hanging out....disgusting
ReplyDeleteExactly! Its horrible that you have to go on a search to find decent modest shorts!!
DeleteCouldn't agree with you more !!! What happened to 'The customer is the reason you have a job not an interruption of your job' ?
ReplyDeleteI have been known to say to A "Do you think they don't have a mirror at home ? Could we afford to buy them one ?" when we are out at shopping centres !!!
Is your dog a staffie ? We have two staffies and one looks very similar (the other we think is a cross with a terrier as he is white and has pointy ears but the staffy nose and mouth).
Have a great week !
Me
Exactly! She was so rude!
DeleteOh im certain people dont have mirrors in their houses!
Yes he is english cross american staffy! The best dogs! Xx
I think the clothing has to be appropriate to the activity. Bra top & short shorts are fine, at the beach or maybe playing tennis or something but in a shopping center it needs to be balanced. Short shorts with a conservative top is acceptable to me. Not that I'd be caught dead in short shorts with my legs.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with that! Appropriate timing and places are fine! just not so much the shopping centre.
DeleteI've had occasion to use a wheelchair a couple of times in my life, and it's even harder for wheelchair users than for prams! For a start all the prices are tilted up so if you're sitting down you can't see them. I found after a shopping trip in a wheelchair I had really sore neck muscles from craning my head to try and see - let alone trying to navigate all the stuff in the aisles - Christmas time is the worst.
ReplyDeleteAnd I couldn't agree more about the short shorts phenomenon. We went in the city the other day and there were all these butts hanging out all over the place. On the beach I can understand but in the City on a weekday?!
Or maybe I just sound like a carping old bag???!
wow I hadn't even thought about that! so very true, I cant imagine how difficult that must have been. Its just frustrating that they dont take anything like that into account!
DeleteIsnt it terrible! I saw more butt cheeks at the shopping centre than I have ever seen before. it was disgusting. Not a fan of the new trends that for sure!
Haha I dont think you are at all! or if you are, I am too! :)
I really dislike shopping these days. I always feel like I'm imposing when I have to ask for help with something. As for the 'denim undies,' even though I couldn't wear them with the body shape I have, but I'm not sure I'd want to. Gosh, I sound like my mum hehe
ReplyDeleteThats a great way of putting it! It seriously is like your imposing when all you want is help! its horrible!
Deletehaha Im with you, even if I had the legs and butt, I dont think I would want the world to see them
i really struggle with fashion. i'm almost 35 and I feel like my choices are to either dress like a 55 year old or a 25 year old, neither of which are ME! It sucks!!
ReplyDeleteSo true! Its like there is no between! Or if there is, its somewhere so expensive you have to take out a loan for one item of clothing!
DeleteTrying to navigate shops with a pram and toddler is a nightmare at the best of times. I so get not having the room to move, the one in the pram is pulling things down and the toddler is off in the maze!
ReplyDeleteohh I hadent even thought about having a toddler! your brave for giving it a go though, I think when I have a toddler, I'll never leave the house haha
DeleteSwinging by as part of #IBOT, I have always struggled with pushing my pram through some of those flash upmarket shops.
ReplyDeleteIsnt it horrible! Its not like mums with prams are a super minority! we do shop too!!
DeletePrams... I failed, I always wore my babes in a sling or carrier so I rarely noticed narrow aisles until said babe was grabbing something off a rack. Oops.
ReplyDeleteCustomer service. I tend to be rather scathing on that and always ask for the manager's name and contact details so I may give them some feedback. ;)
Clothing... well if you hang around roller derby peeps like us, nothing shocks you. And it's always interesting. I figure if they dress that way in public then they can't tell you off for looking! :P
xx
Oh see now thats a clever idea! i love to wear E and I have no idea why I didnt haha! would have made life easier.
DeleteBut still!
And so true, But there is a time and place for everything and really I have no issue with adults wearing the clothes, but the fact they were so young was what freaked me out!
Btw I would love to see a roller derby! I think they are awesome!

When my son was a baby I took him out shopping all the time but we did struggle to get around with our massive pram.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love shopping but I know what you mean about rude shop assistants. I am lucky though, most of the time people are nice.
Re fashion, unfortunately for my bank balance there is always something I like and want to buy. As far as tweens go, I hate the sexualisation of young girls today. I cringe when I see young girls wearing next to nothing.
Glad I found you via #iBOT.

OMGoodness those shorts are a huge peeve of mine too! Especially when you see young girls walking along and then reaching up to pull them out of neverland. 2 rules of thumb I reckon - 1) if you have to fish them out, they don't fit and 2) if the pockets are longer than the leg length, they're W.R.O.N.G. Customer service rant best left for another time ;)
ReplyDeleteGlad to have found you through #IBOT
Shari x
You know I usually just have a quick squiz at stuff and buy off the rack - I NEVER take my 3 with me - it's bad enough with one! Love this post - as usual :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason I stick to shopping online!!! I had such a hard time trying to find shorts that were butt cheek flashers, at least 3 inch inseams please ANYONE???
ReplyDeleteHopefully the trend changes soon, unfortunately only a few people can pull them off, but all the girls seem to think they can. x Karen #TeamIBOT
I so agree with you regarding the customers service. It's terrible! I remember when I was working in a shop, we had to say "Hello" to the people entering in the shop. Now, you can enter somewhere and get out without anyone even noticing you. As for today's fashion, I'm just speechless... What about the ridiculously high heels shoes... As I said, I'm speechless!
ReplyDeleteOh modern fashion drives me mad! Seriously, how hard is it to get a decent pair of shorts these days!!!
ReplyDeleteButt cheeks should always be covered. I also think the girls should cover the muffin tops bulging over the top of their demin shorts too. Rachel xx
